When Halley's Comet lit up the skies in 1835 people were mesmerized and the jewelers of the time so inspired that brooches in the shape of the comet were quickly seen on fashionable women of the era. This beautiful example is crafted of 18k yellow gold and set with an oval turquoise in a hand fashioned floral border, the tail of the comet features two Rubies and an Emerald in pie crust bezels. Details.....The brooch measures 1.18" long and .47" wide at its widest point. This beauty is in excellent condition, the original C clasp has been changed to a safety clasp sometime in the 20th c, the pin stem is the original extra long of the period.
